THE BENEFITS OF CANNABIS SKINCARE PRODUCTS
Posted on 20 April 2017
If you live in a state like Colorado, California or Oregon and have been to a marijuana dispensary, you're likely familiar with topicals, body and facial creams infused with cannabinoids like THC and CBD (chemical compounds extracted from the cannabis plant) that are said to have anti-inflammatory properties.THC has psychotropic effects, so you can only get your hands on products that contain it in states where marijuana is legal. Because CBD does not, however, it's more readily accessible. With both ingredients rising in popularity and becoming more mainstream thanks to non-hippie-dippy brands like CBD For Life, top dermatologists are delving deeper into the ways that cannabinoids can benefit the skin.
The Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology teamed up with the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus recently to conduct a study to officially investigate the role of cannabinoids in skincare treatments.'The treatments are currently being bought over the internet and we need to educate dermatologists and patients about the potential uses of them,' Dr. Robert Dellavalle, an associate professor of dermatology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine involved in the study, said in a press release. The results, released earlier this week, confirmed that cannabanoids have a calming effect on the skin and revealed that topicals may be useful in treating skin diseases including eczema, psoriasis, atopic and contact dermatitis.
Dr. Dellavale was especially impressed with the performance of cannabanoid cream when used to reduce itching. In the study, the cream, when applied twice daily for three weeks, completely relieved the severe itching of more than a quarter of the patients.Skincare brands such as Apothecanna and Herb Essntls also market cannabis-infused products to those with more minor issues, like dryness, muscle soreness and acne.As more states legalize cannabis, more research can be done and more developments can be made in the category. Until then, you can shop the totally legal cannabinoid-infused products above.
